Semester 1
Semester GPA: 3.77(Weighted: 4.11)
Academic Standing: Magna Cum Laude / Dean's List 🌟How GPA is Calculated
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the standard metric used by high schools and universities to quantify overall academic performance on a 4.0 scale. GPA is calculated using the weighted arithmetic mean formula:
Quality points for each course are determined by multiplying the course's credit hours by the numeric grade points corresponding to the letter grade received (e.g. 4 credits in an A course yields $4 \times 4.0 = 16.0$ quality points).

Weighted vs. Unweighted GPA Explained
Unweighted GPA (4.0 Max)
Measures academic achievement without accounting for course difficulty. An A in an introductory elective and an A in Advanced Placement Physics both earn 4.0 grade points.
Weighted GPA (5.0 Max)
Awards extra grade points for rigorous coursework (+0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP and International Baccalaureate classes), allowing GPAs to exceed 4.0.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do Pass/No Pass (P/NP) courses affect GPA?
Pass/No Pass courses do not factor into your GPA calculation. A grade of 'Pass' (P) awards course credits toward graduation requirements without changing your GPA number.
What GPA is required for Dean's List or Latin Honors?
While criteria vary by university, typical Latin Honors cutoffs are: Cum Laude (top 20-30%, typically 3.50-3.69), Magna Cum Laude (top 10-15%, 3.70-3.89), and Summa Cum Laude (top 1-5%, 3.90-4.00).

GPA Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions
Q1 How does an unweighted GPA differ from a weighted GPA? ▾
Unweighted GPA measures performance on a standard 4.0 scale regardless of class difficulty. Weighted GPA awards bonus points (+0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP/IB) to reward students for taking rigorous coursework.
Q2 How do Pass/No Pass (P/NP) classes affect my GPA? ▾
Pass/No Pass courses earn credits toward degree requirements but are excluded from the GPA arithmetic calculation.
Q3 What is the formula for calculating cumulative GPA? ▾
Cumulative GPA equals total quality points earned across all completed semesters divided by total attempted credit hours.
